1. Clinebell Equipment
Co., Inc History
Clinebell Equipment has been family owned and for over 50
years. The company’s roots trace back to 1955 when founder, Virgil Clinebell,
discovered a choice in the market by providing emergency ice to customers while
running his refrigeration service business. The incentive Clinebell soon began
designing ice-making equipment. His first piece of machinery produced a 15-pound
block of ice, which was then placed in a plastic bag and sealed. Since that
time many more ice making machines have been developed by the firms and
garnered a reputation of Clinebell that covered the entire globe. Clinebell is
known for creating quality end products produced in their machines. Virgil
Clinebell has retired making way for his children., Mike Clinebell and Brenda
Seaman, to run the company. Customer service and quality products are as
important to the company today as they were when it was founded.
2. Your Target
Market: Who are your consumers?

3. Marketing
The Product
Carvers from different parts of the country have typically been
using blocks of ice that measure 10” x 20” x 48” and weigh approximately
400lbs. Many of these blocks have the white “feathers” in them. Parts of this
block are unusable and must be removed. The Clinebell block measures 10”x 20”x
40”. The entire block is 100% usable due to the entire block being clear.
Reluctant carvers are regularly swayed to use Clinebell block when they are
given one or two blocks free of charge to test out. That initial experience
with Clinebell block repeatedly creates a committed customer.
4. Setting Prices
Sculpture Blocks
Prices for
sculpture blocks can vary considerably. They can range anywhere from $30 to
$100 per block. When determining prices, it is strongly advised that one
researches their local market. When setting the price remember to account for
shipping and handling. In order to create loyal customers, who are hooked on
the superior quality, giving a client 1 or 2 complimentary blocks.
Ice Carving
Prices for ice
carving can also vary depending on the local market. Again, researching local
market prices is advised. Suggested prices are:
·
$125-$225 for a basic piece
·
$225+ for more detailed and custom pieces.

8. Power Requirements
The chart below indicates
production time for a Clinebell Carving Block maker with 1/2hp condensing unit,
115 volts, single phase, on a 3 day cycle.

$0.15- cost per hour
72 hours total hours
$.15 x 72= $10.80 per 2
finished blocks of ice
$5.40 per finished block of ice in a 3 day cycle
9. Space Requirements
The carving block maker measures 48.5” x 51.5”. Space for
the machine would require an 8ft. ceiling and a 49” wide door or entrance.
Minimum space requirements for equipment placement and
operation is 10” x 10”. Space for a walk-in freezer for block storage is
additional.
10. Water Conditions
Not all water is created equal. The cloudiness in ice is
caused by air in the water as well as the presence of various dissolved solids
(calcium, lime, minerals, etc.) Some waters have more impurities than others.
However, in many cases crystal clear ice can still be achieved with our standard
circulating techniques. Making clear ice under extreme conditions can require
extra circulation during the freezing cycle or even using a water filtration
system. Your local municipal water filtration department should be able to provide
information about water conditions in your area. A local filter system dealer
should also be able to help and suggest possible filtration options if needed.
11. Environmental Considerations
Based on suggestions by the condensing unit manufacturer,
the ideal ambient operating temperature is 72℉. When the temperature around the
condensing unit drops below ~65℉, there is too much cold being created. This
cold can cause cracking in the blocks of ice during the freezing process.
Temperatures that rise above 80℉ can cause the condensing
unit to work harder, causing the freezing cycle to extend into a fourth day.
It is not recommended that a machine be stored in a
refrigerated room. The extra cold will not make the ice freeze faster. In fact,
the additional cold can cause cracking. Likewise, if the machine is placed in a
space such as a garage, we advise placing a fan in the area to help move the
hot air created by the condensing unit out of the building. Excess hot air will
slow the freezing process and extend the time of the freezing process.
Clinebell Equipment does realize that machine cannot always be housed in a
controlled environment, but considerations must be given to changes in
environment throughout the year.
12. Warranty
Clinebell Equipment Co. offers a 1-year parts warranty on
all equipment manufactured by Clinebell Equipment Co. This warranty only covers
equipment that has been operated in accordance with instructions provided by
Clinebell Equipment Co. Equipment not used in compliance with instructions will
not be covered under warranty.
In the event that warranty work is needed, please contact
Clinebell Equipment Co., or your local dealer prior to any work being done. The
machine model number and serial number will need to be provided for warranty.
This information is recorded and filed with the manufacturer and can be found
in the customer packet that accompanied the equipment when it was delivered. An
authorized Clinebell Equipment Co. representative will facilitate the
completion of the warranty process.
The manufacturer of the condensing unit also offers a 1-year
warranty on their products. In the event that warranty work is needed, please
contact Clinebell Equipment Co., or your local dealer for approval and procedures
for successful warranty process.
In all cases manufacturer will require defective parts
returned and a copy of the paid repair bill.
Clinebell Equipment Co. will make any responsible efforts to
get equipment in the field up and running as quickly as possible. We also
always appreciate your efforts in helping make this process as quick and easy
as possible.
13. Maintenance
Maintenance on machines is minimal. Appliances that have
blowers require dirt and dust to be blown away from around the condensing unit.
As needed the cabinet will require defrosting, which involves unplugging the
power cord from the wall and allowing the built-up ice to melt. Be sure that
there is sufficient drainage before starting the defrost process. Once the
defrosting has been completed, thoroughly wipe down the interior of the machine
This step is particularly important if the machine is going to sit for a period
of time. Once you are ready to resume production, simply plug the machine in
and fill.
14. Placing an Order with Clinebell Equipment Co.
Just call us!
Clinebell Equipment Co. requires that all equipment
purchases be paid in advance. Cash, check, certified fund, bank to bank
transfers, and Mastercard or Visa are accepted forms of payment.
At the time of purchase electrical requirements (115 or 220
volts) will need to be specified. If you are unsure, an electrician can provide
that information and answer any questions. Clinebell Equipment Co. advises you
of refrigerants being used in the condensing unit at the time of your purchase.
As federal regulations change, new refrigerants are being developed and used.
Clinebell Equipment Co. engineers constantly monitor the changing regulations
and policies and adapt the equipment to meet those. Please let us know if there
are any specific requirements, so that we can advise you on the suitability
with our equipment.
Once payment has been received, your order will be placed
into the production schedule. Our lead time is approximately 1-2 weeks. Transit
time is an additional 2 to 5 days within the continental United States (this
depends on your location in reference to Loveland, CO). International transit
times vary depending on distance.
15. Receiving Your Equipment from Clinebell Equipment
Co.
Clinebell Equipment ships all equipment and other large
orders using common LTL freight carriers. Supplies and other small packages are
typically shipped via FedEx Courier Company. These companies are all
independent businesses with published estimated transit times. Transit times
are based on a five day calendar work week, which excludes weekends and
holidays. On occasion, a crate or package will inadvertently be routed incorrectly,
adding additional transit time. Shipments can be tracked with FedEx and common
carriers.
Please be aware that we can only provide estimate transit
times for a specific shipment. There is no guarantee of delivery on that date.
Please make arrangements accordingly.
Upon request, common freight carriers can call to notify you
when they plan to deliver. If you would like this service, please request when
placing order. There is an additional charge for delivery in a residential
area, even if you are operating a business from your residence. There are also
additional charges for a lift gate. You
are responsible for removing the freight from the back end of the truck and
beyond if you do not purchase a lift gate. If you purchase a lift gate, the
freight carrier will unload the machine from the truck. The freight
carrier is responsible for getting your freight to your location and backing
the truck up. Some carriers have limited numbers of trucks with lift gates to
assist you in getting the freight off the truck. Most freight weighs several
hundred pounds and requires mechanical handling assistance. Please take all
safety measures necessary.
1.
When the freight truck arrives with your shipment, the
driver will bring the freight to the back of the truck. If you have purchased a
lift gate, the driver will transport the freight to the ground for you. If no
lift gate was purchased, you will need to transport the freight to the ground
yourself. From there you are responsible for moving the freight. If you have a
dock available, slide the crates from the truck to the dock. Otherwise, a
forklift will be required to move the equipment from the truck to its location.
Remember, you’ll need an entrance to your building that is at least 49” wide.
2.
Set the equipment up in accordance with instructions
sent with your machine.
3.
Clinebell Equipment Co. ships equipment world-wide
using common freight carriers and crates all equipment to minimize freight
damage.
4.
When your shipment is delivered be sure to inspect for
visible damage and make note of any damages and note damages on the delivery
receipt. Contact Clinebell Equipment Co. immediately.
5.
Uncrate the equipment and inspect for concealed damage.
If found, contact the carrier immediately. They will send an inspector out
right away and a claim can be filed. Also contact Clinebell Equipment Co.
